Hi there! I just joined, hoping someone in this community might be able to help me out. I'm directing a musical in San Francisco, and my vision for the production is that it takes place in a steampunk-esque world - it's a fantasy adventure story about a troupe of traveling actors in a time of war - the given time period on the script is "five years after 'Once Upon A Time'", so it's like this blending of a fairy tale world into industry.

That all said, I am in search of a costume designer for this project - it's a paid job, with a materials budget. Experiencing doing costuming for theatre is a plus, but what I'm really looking for is someone who can use creativity, ingenuity, and resourcefulness to bring this world to life through the costumes.

If I've piqued anyone's interested, feel free to e-mail me at reynaldilolong@gmail.com or comment here with your e-mail. Feel free to pass this along to anyone you know who might be interested as well... thank you!

Hello, ladies & gents! I'm looking for a corset to complete a steampunk ensemble and of course I'm torn between saving up for a nice custom one and getting one nownownow. ;) I just saw that Inhale Corsets is having a sale this month (which means I have just enough cash for an underbust Victorian), but I've been burned recently by a cheap corset seller and now I'm nervous to try someone new. I haven't seen them mentioned here before; anybody know anything about them?

Alternatively, I get a good feeling from Sidney Eileen's website. I like how open she is to customization (I have some specific ideas and I really like the idea of a one-of-a-kind piece), but I think one of hers would run me more like $275. Still, that's not too dear and it might be worth it to wait. Any thoughts?

Finally, just a word of warning: the corset seller that burned me was Alter Ego Erotics on eBay. I've seen them recommended several times here, and maybe they're just going through a bad time right now, but it's been over two months since I paid and I have never received the corset (missed Halloween! I was heartbroken), nor have they responded to multiple requests for a refund. I feel like I just threw away $100 and wasted two months of my life. :(

(First post to a comm....I'm always so nervous, for whatever reason...)

So. Hello! I’m a metalsmith/jeweler who’s loved the steampunk aesthetic ever since I first saw it, but I’ve never really been “active in the community,” as it may be. But seeing as how I just recently began to make jewelry with steampunk specifically in mind, and unfortunately have no one in Real Life to really share it with, I thought I’d change that—and thus I came across this lovely comm.! And lurked for a considerable amount of time, as I am wont to do.

Anyway. To the important stuff.

Ring; sterling silver and brass.

More. )

I’m considering setting up shop at cons, but basically wanted to get a feel for what other fellow steampunks think about my work (meager as it is, at the moment). So any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Last but not least, pleased to meet you all, and I’m very happy to be here!

PS: If, by some miracle, you’re interested, the rings posted are for sale. (And since most people don’t have $20,000 lying around to buy, say, a pen a pair of earrings, I do try to keep my prices relatively reasonable for the average person.) Feel free to ask for any details. ^_^

I was searching for something completely unrelated when I stumbled upon a picture of a dog in a jacket covered in Medals from WWI. Curious, I did a quick search online and found a few more pictures of Military dogs from WWI, WWII and earlier. Thinking that this may provide some inspiration for folks with pets I post them here:

Has anyone come across a DECENT hand held or portable sewing machine? All the ones I've heard about are crummy and break in a few rounds if they even make it that far. I was looking for one to take to conventions for repair work and whatnot but I can't find one worth getting. Does a decent one exist?

I'm a long time lurker, but this is my first time posting.

Alright, before I get started, I'm going to apologize for not having any pics, as I am operating on Dial-up, and uploading pictures is a pain, especially since I lost my memory card 2 days ago.....

okay, without further ado,

I have a super old, hand-me-down suede-ish leather jacket, that doesn't fit right. Obviously it is now going to be part of a steampunk costume, but I currently have absolutely no ideas as to what to make it look like...
so this is where YOU guys come in ;) if anyone has any cool pics stockpiled of awesome leather steampunk jackets/vests/whatnot, share!

I also have an aviator hat, but the leather is much darker than that of the jacket. But I wanted to see if I could incorporate it into an outfit anyway, so for the jacket I'm looking on the side of the airship pirate/aviator scheme.

So just.. spam me with jacket ideas :D muchly appreciated.

I was in an antique shop* in Antwerp (Belgium) last Friday, and saw this GORGEOUS Victoriana wedding gown.
So I HAD to get some pictures.

I don't know what it costs, I was afraid I'd fall over backwards from hearing the price.

* Don't ask me for the name of the shop, I totally forgot.
